Physical Reminders of Presence

Employers can establish a physical reminder of the employee’s “presence” in several ways. The work station can be left open in some cases, though in other cases another worker or a temporary replacement employee will assume the worker’s responsibilities. In this situation, something like a picture on the wall, an empty chair, or other reminder can be placed in the work area. In many cities, there are companies that can produce life-size cardboard cutouts from a photograph.

If you have a company parking lot, blocking off a space for each activated employee makes the statement that space is being reserved for that employee’s return.
