To “deliver America” to U.S. military men and women overseas, Wal-Mart and AT&T formed a partnership with the USO in late 2001 to provide free telephone cards to U.S. troops, giving them the opportunity to call family and friends during the holiday season. This generous benefit was extended again to all US military men and women overseas for Mothers’ Day in 2002, with the donation of 377,000 phone cards.
Your company can provide prepaid phone cards for your activated employees and their families. Employees can use them while on active duty and families can use them to help defray the extra long-distance charges that may be incurred staying in touch with family while your worker is deployed.
Verizon, in support of families of activated members of the Guard and Reserve donated 100,000 30-minute phone cards. This assistance will be much appreciated by those families who are financially challenged by the extra expenses associated with a missing breadwinner.
