Aviation maintenance company, Midair USA, created more than 200 maintenance jobs at its operation in Upstate New York in the last year alone.

The company has seen a major rise in the amount of work being sent to the its Rome, NY operation, after local management made the request to Swiss parent company Midair SA. General Manager, Paul Staskowski, said there were many reason’s why the region was experiencing such growth, including abundant staffing options and appropriate economic conditions.

“Our focus is to bring as many jobs as possible to the area,” he said. “In that light we’re using local contractors for some of our work that we can’t do in house.”

Midair USA makes over an assortment of commercial liners to cater for airlines that are looking to add to their fleets through leasing option, which becomes more and more attractive to them when the economy is weak.

Many workers have been hired directly from the nearby Riverside School of Aeronautics, which local Oneida County executive, Anthony Picente, said benefited everyone.

“Working with those employers, with the college to develop the type of skill sets that they’re looking for is another way that we’re enhancing economic development,” explained Picente. “We’re giving employers directly what they want.”
