A host of new aviation jobs have been announced following recent confirmation that Qantas Group, Japan Airlines Co (JAL) and Mitsubishi Corporation are to launch a domestic airline
The trio will launch the new low-cost domestic airline, Jetstar Japan, at the end of next year. Around 800 new aviation jobs, including pilot jobs, maintenance jobs, cabin crew jobs and ground crew jobs, are to accompany the launch, according to a company spokesperson.
Initially, Jetstar Japan is tipped to fly from Narita Airport in Tokyo and Kansai International Airport in Osaka. Other destinations in the pipeline include Fukuoka, Sapporo and Okinawa. At some point in the future, the new airline also plans to offer short haul international flights to other Asian cities.
A spokesperson for Jetstar Japan spoke to Recruiter magazine, saying, “The full range of positions from cabin crew, pilots, engineers, management and administration will be created. We are yet to confirm our bases as yet.”
Jetstar Japan is planning to price its flights 40 per cent lower than those already available, changing the way in which Japanese travellers fly.
Bruce Buchanan, Jetstar CEO, told The Australian, “It’s the world’s third-largest economy, a massive travel market, but there have never been any low-cost carriers to stimulate that shift in travel.”
