Does Hiring Slowdown During the Summer?
Most experts say no.
Who started the “nobody hires during the summer myth?” And what could the reasoning behind it be?
The powers that be are on vacation? The office is just to hot to cram another person into it? Whatever the reason is, most job search experts say it is a myth. Even seasonal jobs need to prepare for the season.
Experts agree that it’s never a good time to sit back and wait for the “right” time.
A Job For Every Season
“The best and worst times to look for a job can vary by industry, company and even departments, ” says columnist Debra Donston-Miller in her article To Every Season.
If a full time position isn’t necessarily what you’re after summer can be a goldmine of freelance and temporary positions. “Many organizations will hire contract employees during the summer months to fill long leaves of absence, such as extended vacations and sabbaticals, and these positions could turn into permanent employment,” says Patty Coffey, Partner, Information Technology division at Winter, Wyman as quoted by Amy Levin Epstein in The Myth of the Summer Hiring Slowdown.
