This is a manifesto — a Tea Party manifesto — calling for a restoration of the judiciary to its original and proper place in our constitutional system.

Role Changes in the World of Work

February 4, 2012 by Brian O. Brown No Comments »

When I started this blog it was out of frustration.  Frustration that I was a smart, well-educated, independent person whose career had come to a crossroads.  Not because I needed to update my skills, not because I didn’t do my assigned tasks well, but instead because I also chose to care about my family and be sure they were also taken care of as needed.  I found the corporate world of work too rigid and quite frankly too discriminatory.

I wanted to change that world…especially for my little girl.  I didn’t want her to have the kind of workplace experiences I had.  And of course I was not alone in my frustration or my desire.  And I’m h

8, No, 10, No, MANY Resume Words to Avoid

There are eight words no resume should include because they’re “fluffy,” says Tina Brasher, a certified professional resume writer.

Actually, there are 10 resume words to avoid, according to recent research from LinkedIn Analytics.

Really, there are hundreds of words and phrases to avoid. A close examination of the preferences of the delegates to the Philadelphia Convention of 1787 tells a very different story. Had they voted on our present regime of presidential elections, they almost certainly would have rejected it.

O Cubeland, wherefore art thou Cubeland?

January 7, 2012 by Brian O. Brown No Comments »

I miss my old office job. There I said it. Yes, I know. I work from home and for myself. I set my own hours and have total flexibility. What could be better?

Well….

  • Working with people I like and respect who I can learn from and continue to grow. I miss that.
  • Having someone else set my goals and priorities more often because doing it all myself is quite frankly exhausting.
  • Having somewhere to go that is separate from home where there is a clear definition of what is work time and what is not.
  • Listening to the radio on my commute.
  • Walking around the office and half-hearing 100s of conversations about things I’m both interested in and also could completely care less about. But

January 2, 2012 by Brian O. Brown No Comments »

By now most job seekers know that sending a follow-up letter after a job interview is vital and could mean the difference between getting hired or not.

“Thank-you letters continue to be an important component of a successful job search campaign. But the focus has shifted from a simple courtesy and show of appreciation to a targeted self-marketing tool,” says Barbara Safani, owner of Career Solvers, in Career Advice article 5 Reasons to Send Thank-You Letters.

  • It allows you to reinforce a connection with the interviewer after you’ve met her.
  • Market yourself.  Beyo
